What is Hypnobirthing?
Birth is a natural body function like sneezing, coughing or even having a poo! We do not need to be coached or even consciously think about how to do it, our body just does it. Birth is a natural process that the female body is built to do. Therefore, giving birth is not something that we do, it is something that happens. However, for a large majority of people, birth has become something to be feared, an emergency and something that needs to be medically controlled as it is classed as a dangerous procedure. In modern life, we see and hear so many birth stories that are an emergency and are traumatic- on TV, on the radio, when we fall pregnant and everybody wants to tell us about their dramatic birth story.
Sound familiar yet?
We have filled our sub-conscious brains with these ideas that birth is scary, painful and dangerous and ‘where the mind leads the body will follow’.
Because birth is a natural process, it is instinct, we do not have to consciously think about how to do it. We need to move over to let our sub-conscious mind take the lead. But what happens when our sub-conscious mind is filled with all of these negative perceptions of birth? Labour can become painful and we enter a spiral of medical interventions.
Button Moon Hypnobirthing is simple and logical: it aims to release these fears from the mind and replace them with positive stories, images and feelings about birth; it is made up of simple tools that are practised each day during the pregnancy, in preparation for birth. Button Moon enables you, as expectant parents, to navigate the policies and procedures of maternity services that change frequently and towards an ever-increasing epidemic of interventions, to ensure you can discuss any intervention offered to you as equals and make informed choices that result in the birth you want. You do the work before the birth so you can move out of the way and let birth happen as it is naturally intended.
